Oh Les Miserables Hangover!!!

Finally after such a long time of waiting and from the first time I blogged the trailer of Les Miserables, tonight I braved to do one thing I have been wanting to do since the last time I did it. I watched a movie alone for the first time in after oh so many years (clap, clap, clap). My last solo movie encouter was not that good so I better not talk about it.

Like book reviews I am no good for the movies also. So let me just share my thoughts about it. First, kudos to the whole cast of the movie. For me they all fit perfectly for their roles. They deserve all the nominations they got from the Golden Globe Awards and I am sure there will be more this coming Oscars. I guess I don’t need to mention how Hugh, Anne and Amanda never fails to deliver their character well. But my favorite part was of course Samantha Barks version of “on my own”. Very simple yet touching, plus add the rain effect. 🙂

Being the crybaby that I am, I cried at 5 scenes. First was when Jean Valjean got Cosette and he sung “suddenly”. Second at the hospital scene where Fantine died. Third where Eponine died and Marius was singing to him. Fourth when Marius was singing after all his friends died and lastly, when Jean Valjean said goodbye to Cosette and Marius. My tears wont stop as usual so when the movie ended, my head starts to throb again. This time I am not pissed off though I can’t walk straight. I can’t blame myself for crying, haha.

Two quotes that I somehow remember but not sure if it’s right since I can’t write and I am too absorbed in the movie.
If I could close your wounds with words of love – Marius to Eponine
There’s a grief that can’t be spoken. There’s a pain that goes and goes.” – Marius

That would be it. 🙂 Watch the movie and enjoy yourself. For all those musical fanatics, make sure you don’t miss it.

  1. Thanks. Now I know who dies in the movie.

heheh… no, seriously, great review and I like the included quotes. The last movie I went to see alone was “First Knight” starring Richard Gere & Julia Ormond. Not an altogether bad experience! I happen to have 4 free Rave Theater movie passes and Les Miserables is playing there- we’ll see what happens. I’m a crybaby too so I already know I’ll be sniveling my way through the entire thing. (I’ve been known to cry over a Kodak commercial. Sad…)

    1. Hmmm… I need to see that movie. And 4 free passes! You are lucky! (don’t worry, I cry at coke commercials, so that leaves us with no difference, haha!)

Hopefully, you will love the movie as much as I do. From casting to singing, I will give them a high five!

  2. Must watch Oscar Nominated movies…. I’ve forgotten to watch movies from losing interest because of bad qualities. But I had been a follower of Oscars. I must try to watch these movies when I still can.
That “On My Own” part made me so more interested in the movie. Thanks for the head’s up.

    1. I am definitely looking forward to the Oscars. Yes please watch “Les Mis” I am telling you, you won’t regret it. And the look on Samantha Barks eyes when she deliver her lines, they are full of soul. Not sure if I am the only one who noticed her. But she has this type of control over her voice and acting at the same time that leaves me in wonder. I was the girl in the seats screaming in mind… “I want that role”. lol! It’s given that Anne and Hugh Jackman acts so well… but Samantha has that magic. I never knew her before til this movie. 🙂

    1. She truly did an amazing job, I can’t forget how the tears swelled in her big eyes. She placed so much emotion in her character. loved that part too although the songs makes me sad.

      1. Thanks! I think the weather is supposed to be bad here again starting tomorrow afternoon…not sure if I will get out or not! I hope you have a fabulous weekend as well! =)

  3. I watched “Les Miserables”. Very high on cinematography, screenplay, directorial and performances. Anne Hathaway’s makeover is sure going to be a favorite among award-giving bodies – a sure frontrunner.
I also watched “Silver Linings Playbook”. It’s great that Bradley Cooper is getting great projects and that he is able to deliver (unlike Robert Pattison :P). I’m sorry to say, I don’t think he deserves the recognition. The movie is fine, but I’m very surprised it made a lot of nomination nods. I just think it’s your regular popcorn movie, and exploited the idea of throwing bipolar disorder into the mix to make it look better. I think that the endings are ridiculous. It is as if the writer did a great job with earlier writings then suddenly slept or handed the ending parts to someone else. 😀 It’s a feel good movie with mental disorder scenes which everyone loves to watch. It’s not at all bad per se, just not Grammy material for me. Only my .02c.

    1. I got addicted to les mis and ended up watching it thrice O.o As a matter of fact, I can still hear them sing. Haha!

Silver linings is not yet showing here but my sister was able to dl it over the net. We will watch it in a bit. Hmmm…. but seems like I would want to read the book after the movie. 🙂
